ABOUT US
WIND ENGINEERING CENTER Co., Ltd.
As Japan’s first manufacturer specializing in wind engineering, we have been manufacturing “wind tunnel test models” and “wind tunnel test apparatus” since our establishment. Ltd., the only company with nearly half a century of experience as a manufacturer of various types of environmental testing equipment for dynamic wind pressure, heat insulation, sound insulation, and other applications for construction materials. Ltd. and has become a manufacturer capable of planning, designing, and manufacturing models and experimental equipment for wind and environmental testing.
WIND TUNNELS
What Wind Tunnel Tests Can Assess
-
Wind Environment
Skyscrapers have a negative impact on the environment by generating gusty winds, known as “building winds”.
Building winds affect serious issues in recent years. They scatter dust, lift roofing tiles of neighboring houses, produce noise and disturb cyclists and pedestrians. The wind tunnel tests validate the possible impact of building winds generated by new skyscrapers, and also examine the effectiveness of the building designs and surrounding vegetation to reduce the impact of the winds. The tests are repeated over and over again using various conditions. -
Wind Resistant Design
Wind loads on buildings depend on their size, height and locations. The data acquired in the wind tunnel tests can provide insight into the necessary structure of buildings and required strength for external walls.
-
Amenity and Livability
Wind may cause skyscrapers to vibrate. To ensure the amenity and livability of the buildings, various shaped models are used in wind tunnel testing to examine wind-induced vibration and frequency of the occurrence.
EXPERIMENTAL MODEL
-
Environment Model
This experimental model examines the building winds caused by skyscrapers and the impacts on the surroundings. A complete set comes with a “planned building model” of the target building and a disk-shaped “surrounding model” 11simulating the immediate neighboring structures (buildings, landscape, vegetation, etc.).
-
Wind Pressure Model
This experimental model measures the wind pressure against the building walls and windows. The planned building model be used with or without a surrounding model similar to the environment model.
-
Wind Force Model
This experimental model determines the wind load applied to the entire building (measuring the load decomposed to 5-6 component forces). The data are used for structural designing. As with the wind pressure model, the model may be used with or without a surrounding model depending on the case scenarios.
-
Vibration Model
This experimental model measures the swinging and vibration (dynamic response characteristics) of the building caused from the wind. As with the wind pressure model, the model may be used with or without a surrounding model.
-
Bridge Model
This is a bridge model for the wind force and vibration experiment.
